Congratulations to the ARC Junior Rowers who went to USRowing Youth Nationals and rowed through swarms of Cicadas!
They won not one, but two, third place national medals!
Claire Burns and Kara Johannesen came in 3rd in the Women's 2x! (7:43:65) and only 10 seconds off the winning crew from Long Beach and 3 seconds off 2nd place GMS! Their time for this race would have placed them 1st last year!
Dave McClain & Hugh Kelley came in 3rd in the Men's Ltwt 2x with an outstanding 6:58:19 and were only 5 seconds after the winner from Miami Beach and 3 seconds behind the second place Sarasota. An awesome race!
For anyone who wonders how they did it - Claire, Kara, Dave & Hugh attended 9 practices a week (4:30 or 5:30 AM three mornings) all spring!
And...excellent results for first time Nationals participants Hannah Bogan and Morgan Lansing who came in 4th in the Women's Ltwt 2x! Only 22 seconds behind the first place boat from Tempe and 15 seconds behind the 2nd place Shenedehowa!
And...the Men's 4x with Sam Garrison (first timer), Alex Timmons, Tyler Quinn Holloway and Brian Calouri (first timer) who squeaked into third in the C-final by 1/100th of a second with a very tight finish but the best time an ARC Quad has ever had at a Nationals race (6:46) ...only 31 seconds behind A finals winner Malvern Prep!
Everyone was pleased with their efforts and inspired to new levels of achievement.
