Adult Rowing Programs

ARC offers morning and evening rowing opportunities for adults.

Morning Rowing Group

The emphasis of the Morning Rowing Group is on competitive training with the goal of participating at local and regional regattas. Participants in this program should be committed to train hard under the direction of Coach Mike MacMinn and be willing to travel to selected regattas. Regatta Fees will be collected to cover regatta expenses. Practice time is 5:30 until 7:00 AM. Every effort is made to be back to the dock by 7:00 so that folks can get to work on time.

Evening Rowing Group

The Evening Rowing Group is geared toward rowers who cannot or do not want to commit to competitive racing at regattas. Rowers are coached to gain fitness, power and speed while continuing to improve technique. Practice time is 6:30 until 8:00 PM.

Spring 2012 Practice Schedule:

The practice schedule for Spring 2012 will be the same for both Morning and Evening Groups and will run from April 2 until June 2, 2012. Rowers have the option of rowing on a full or part time schedule.

General Information

Any evening rower wishing to join the Morning Rowing Group for competitive summer rowing may do so with the consent of the coach. If you are getting back into rowing after being injured or not rowing for years, we recommend starting with the evening program. If you are new to the Albany area and looking for a place to row but are not sure of your level of commitment, we offer a free row as a test drive before you sign up.

Regattas & Virtual Racing Account

The competitive program typically attends several local and regional regattas each year. A schedule of upcoming regattas will be posted when available. Virtual Racing Accounts (VRAs) are used to manage regatta fees. Each rower's VRA should be brought up to $175 before the start of each season. As you participate in races, Albany Rowing Center will deduct the "actual cost" of attending the regatta from your VRA. "Actual costs" are the cumulative cost of:

  • Entry Fees
  • Gas
  • Tolls
  • Coach's costs
The total cost is then divided by the number of racers participating in that regatta to determine the amount to be deducted from your VRA.

Visiting Rowers

Traveling through the Capital Region? Need your rowing fix? Stop by ARC!

ARC offers opportunity for guest rowers to row while in the Albany area. Experienced rowers who live outside of the Capital District (Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties) and who are visiting the Albany area may row in any of our adult programs while they are here. The guest rower fees are $15 per day or $35 per week for part-time rowing and $45 per week for full time rowing. Guest rowers must sign an ARC waiver and release form. As a rule, no guest may row more than 2 consecutive weeks in one season without joining ARC as a member.
